For so many nights

She sat here alone

Never cried a tear

Didn’t grab a phone.

Then anger took its turn

It always takes its turn

There is not a way

That anger just wont burn.

She wondered aloud at night

Would anyone want this soul?

The family kept her down

There was no diamond in this coal.

He gently took her hand

Led her off away

Promised her his life

Promised her he’d stay.

At first she didn’t believe

Then she didn’t know why

Of all the times she sat alone

Why didn’t he hear her cry?

Tonight she sits alone

He’ll ask about her day

She’ll hold the telephone

Until the call just goes away.
