We don’t get to make the rules
We just break them every day.
You can beg a girl to ‘stand right there’
But you won’t get her to stay.
You can have your little fit
Of jealousy and rage.
You men are like reading a book to us
We’ll simply turn the page.
We are as defiant as we are courageous
We dance to a different tune.
We love the places we can sit and think
In silence we pray to the moon.
We are the dreamers and the writers
The artists you never see.
The creators that build this land
Into a beautiful symphony.
We are the ones take our clothes off
Not literally, really.
We bleed our craft and take our home
In a different reality.
We are the ones that will smile at you
As you smirk at what we do.
You see, we make our craft, and love it
It is never, ever, about you.
We are the ones that wake up groggy
Because we have been up all night.
We sat and and created a masterpiece
Without any form of light.
We are the ones that take you literally
Because we know the cost of words.
We know they will cut you straight in two
Or build a few kinds of birds.
We are the ones that will wake you
Take you to another place.
We’ll cause a storm to erode your skin
Leave nothing but your face.
You may think we are odd or different
But really we cannot be labeled.
Just as there are some birds not caged
There are horses that are not stabled.
