Angels surround a beautiful soul

Carrying the weight of a hundred

Traitors in her past.

Simple tears stream down the face

Of a statue losing its soul

To the decay of the toll that life takes.

A small child breaks at the very second

He stops believing in justice

As his mother is taken from him.

A mind

Or a cliff

Both precipitous

Yet the blind try to seek

The deaf continue to hear

The ignorant spew more false information

Than intelligent ones speak the truth.

I sit in a room dangling the truth

Between fingers that only want

What I would never give to them.

They ask me

“Are you afraid of the dark?”

Yet everything that has ever happened to me

Happened in broad daylight.

Why in the world

Would I be afraid

Of the dark?
