The Ugly Side of Beautiful

Maybe I don’t know what side to be on

The rose wasn’t for me this time I was gone.

Maybe the signs you left are wrong

You didn’t really mean to sing me that song?

Maybe the life we need to sort out

Began with a map with an alternative route.

Maybe the side of the road where I stood

Was all that I left there and it wasn’t good.

Maybe all the thoughts of abroad

When love stood here, my iron rod.

Maybe doubt, maybe not

Someday I give everything I’ve got.

Wishing maybe something more

Then falling down, to the floor.

Being left, being used

Left rather scarred, permanently bruised.

Looking though, it’s something to see

This thing, a body, it’s all just me.

Maybe more than just a handful

This, the ugly side of beautiful.
