Life Took the Vulnerable

I had a nice big bed for the summer

Then I beat you at a great game of pool.

Took your honor one night in a prison

But you said nobody was a fool.

I spent time with your mother and father

Sat in a room fool of bile.

Took notes in the field of justice

But burned it after a while.

I laid with you in a garden

We made love in a dream I sang.

Life took the vulnerable once

It was a beautiful song that rang.

Washed our feet in the river

Then took a nap over a waterfall.

We held our truths in hands left empty

Threw them all against the wall.

When we left, we wandered aimlessly

Never finding what we lost.

It was one night when lonely and frightened

We realized what it cost.
